We’ve entered week two, day eight, of our NO SPEND month and that means the focus is going to shift off food and onto cleaning. But don’t let that fool you – we are still not spending on nonessential food items. At this point, the no spend has shown us what we have and can do in the food category. Now we will just carry on with that for the rest of the month while we focus on other areas of life.
Day eight is all about preparing to clean. I love cleaning! Yes, I said it and I’ll say it again.
I love cleaning!
Cleaning and organizing and decluttering… all of these things excite me. While my house is generally clean to begin with, I still love this time in the no spend because I can focus on all the little areas that I may overlook in my day to day housework.
Minimalism has left me with a fairly easy to clean house. I don’t tend to have tons of clutter piling up, the kids even know not to leave their items piled up around the house, and I am constantly removing unwanted stuff. But… there are always areas to deal with.
Today’s task is basically a mental preparation for big cleaning tomorrow. The idea is to go through the house and pick up any clutter, do laundry, put things where they belong, gather up cleaning supplies or make homemade ones, and get in the mindset to clean.
A clean house is a house you will want to live in.
A clean house is a house that creates less stress and anxiety.
A clean house is inviting to both family and friends.
A clean house is one that brings you joy. Seriously, if you don’t smile when you sit in your living room… well, then something is very wrong.
Cleaning your house shouldn’t be about buying more organizational items to store things you rarely use. Rather, this cleaning is going to completely freshen the space and remove those things that bog you down.
While this week isn’t going to be a true minimalist declutter removal of all the nonessential items, it will start the ball rolling on a less messy, less overwhelming, less cluttered, less stressful space.
I do a little cleaning every day, but I am looking at a kitchen counter right now that could use a good declutter and wipe down. I’m mentally prepared to tackle things tomorrow. And because I’m already a lover of all things clean, my floors have already been mopped.
However, even with clean floors already checked off the to-do list, you bet I will be scrubbing tomorrow anyway. You see, when you enjoy the space you live in, you will actually want to be there. Cleaning up the house makes spending free time in it a more enjoyable experience. And since we are on a no spend, time at home is key.
